This policy aims to raise awareness of children and vulnerable adults at risk and the importance of working together to safeguard their quality of life. At Sabar Family, we have a duty as an organisation to make appropriate arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We are committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment to ensure that the children, young people, and adults at risk with whom we engage are protected from harm, abuse and/or exploitation.
Sabar Family has developed this policy to inform and support staff, artists, and volunteers in fulfilling their safeguarding responsibilities in line with best practice. Our aims are to protect and promote the welfare of all our project participants and any other person we may have contact with through our work. Our team understands that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and all staff, artists and volunteers who, during the course of their employment or voluntary work, have direct or indirect contact with children and vulnerable adults or have any access to information about them, have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
Sabar Family’s safeguarding policy addresses the following areas of safeguarding: child safeguarding, adult safeguarding, and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse. This is a joint policy as there are similarities in many of the actions needed to safeguard children and young people and to safeguard vulnerable adults. However, Sabar Family recognises that there is also some differences between these groups and these are reflected in the document. The policy also acknowledges Sabar Family’s international activities and how to protect people in an International Development Context where Power Differentials exist.
To fulfil our duty to safeguard children, young people, and adults at risk, this policy aims to provide every staff member, sessional artist, and volunteer with the information they need to ensure that they:
  • understand what safeguarding means
  • know what their duties and responsibilities are
  • have clear guidance on what action to take if, and when, a safeguarding concern arises
Sabar Family believes that everyone we have contact with, regardless of age, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation or ethnic origin has the right to be protected from all forms of harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation. Sabar Family does not tolerate abuse and exploitation by staff or associated personnel.
