About Sabar Family

Sabar Family was formed in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist musician, vocalist & dancer Batch Gueye, a West African Griot – storyteller through his music and dance.

Sabar is a traditional drum and dance form from Senegal, West Africa, associated with Wolof and Serer Griot people. Batch Gueye’s vision was to create an African-led company that brings the essence or heart of West Africa to the UK by building a team that embodies and teaches by example what it means to be family and community – hence the name Sabar Family.

The company’s style is influenced by West African traditional and modern dance with contemporary influences, telling stories through movement, song and music.
